Some of you might know that there was a time before Netflix, streaming and getting all your movies online all the time and everywhere. In the 1970s, JVS developed VHS and thereby a whole new entertainment. For the first time people were able to choose what to watch and where to watch it but also record movies from TV. A revolution of home entertainment! For over two decades, VHS was the big format to watch movies at home – until the DVD came our in the late 90s. In 2006, the last big movie was produced on VHS.

German retailer The Good Will Out is known for their great story-telling when it comes to sneaker collabs – only weeks ago, they released three Diadora styles as the “Rise & Fall” pack, telling the story of Roman emperors Caligula and Nero with a great packaging and stunning goodies.

Now it’s time for their first Saucony Originals project. They teamed up with Saucony to release a limited collaboration of the Shadow 5000 silhouette, inspired by the classic VHS. VHS was more than just a format to watch movies, it was the feeling of being able to watch what you want, where you want and whenever you want. The The Good Will Out x Saucony Shadow 5000 VHS uses a classic material mix of suede, leather and mesh on the upper. As the classic VHS, the shoe’s main color is black, with a lot of small details. On the side of the heel and on the tongue you can find the TGWO logo, the back of the heel shows the characteristic test pattern color chart and the VHSaucony logo – nice wordplay! The toebox features the classic control symbols that could be found on every video tape player. To round of the look, the whole upper construction sits on a translucent outsole – it’s inspired by the classic tv screen. You can see a mix of “white noise” and the The Good Will Out logo.

So many details! But also the packaging is crazy: the The Good Will Out x Saucony Shadow 5000 VHS comes in a special box designed by Hollis Brown Thornton. The artist creates drawings and illustrations inspired by classic technologies from the last decades, such as VHS. The first inshore customers even get an original VHS tape with a classic gem from the 80s!

Beside the shoe, you can also buy a matching shirt and a typically 80s trucker cap in the style of the collab. The The Good Will Out x Saucony Shadow 5000 VHS will be available on August 5th – exclusively at The Good Will Out Cologne! Retail price will be 150€ for the shoes.
