Selection of Host
In a significant move for cricket’s global expansion, the International Cricket Council (ICC) revealed in November 2021 that the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup would be hosted in the United States and the West Indies.
This decision followed a joint bid submitted by Cricket West Indies and USA Cricket, culminating two years of meticulous preparation. The partnership between these associations underscores a strategic effort to promote the sport in new territories and represents an exciting milestone for cricket enthusiasts in both regions.
Teams and Qualification Criteria
The road to qualification for the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup was filled with anticipation and excitement as teams battled through various routes to secure their spots in the tournament.
Eight teams earned automatic qualification based on their performance in the 2022 tournament and rankings in the ICC Men’s T20I Team Rankings. Additionally, the hosts, the United States and the West Indies, secured automatic berths, further adding to the competitive mix.
The remaining slots were fiercely contested through regional qualifiers organized by the ICC. These qualifiers provided an opportunity for teams from Africa, Asia, Europe, the Americas, and the East Asia-Pacific regions to showcase their skills and determination on the field.
In a testament to the growing competitiveness of cricket across the globe, the qualifiers witnessed intense battles and surprising outcomes.
In July 2023, Ireland and Scotland emerged victorious from the Europe Qualifier, securing their places in the tournament. Papua New Guinea followed suit, triumphing in the East Asia-Pacific Qualifier to earn their spot among the elite.
Canada displayed their prowess in October 2023, clinching qualification after a hard-fought victory over Bermuda in the Americas Qualifier.
The journey to qualification continued with Nepal and Oman making their mark in the Asia Qualifier, securing their places after an impressive showing in Nepal.
Namibia and Uganda completed the lineup, showcasing their talent and resilience to secure the final two spots after a grueling campaign in the Africa Qualifier.
Notably, Zimbabwe’s absence highlighted the intensity of the qualification process, emphasizing that no team is guaranteed a place in cricket’s premier events. As the stage is set for the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup, the diverse lineup of teams promises a tournament filled with excitement, passion, and moments that will captivate cricket fans around the world.
Match Stadiums
The journey towards finalizing the host venues for the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup was a meticulous process that involved careful consideration and planning by the ICC and Cricket West Indies (CWI).
In May 2023, CWI initiated a thorough bidding process, inviting countries in the Caribbean region and the United States to vie to host tournament matches.
By July 2023, the ICC had shortlisted four venues in the United States, including Central Broward Park in Lauderhill, Florida, Church Street Park in Morrisville, North Carolina, Grand Prairie Stadium in Grand Prairie, Texas, and a temporary stadium proposed for Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, New York City.
However, objections from Bronx residents led to relocating the proposed temporary stadium to Eisenhower Park on Long Island in Nassau County, New York. Alongside Central Broward Park and Grand Prairie Stadium, these venues would undergo expansion to accommodate the tournament’s requirements.
Simultaneously, the ICC announced venues in Antigua & Barbuda, Barbados, Dominica, Guyana, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and Trinidad and Tobago as hosts for the West Indies leg of the tournament.
Notably, the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in San Fernando replaced Trinidad’s Queen’s Park Oval, while Dominica’s Windsor Park was withdrawn due to infrastructural challenges.
In December 2023, a delegation from the ICC and CWI conducted a second inspection of the confirmed host countries and cities, finalizing the tournament’s fixtures.
The Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, set to host the highly anticipated India-Pakistan group stage match, was unveiled in January 2024, with construction expected to be completed by the end of May 2024.
As preparations continue to unfold, cricket enthusiasts eagerly anticipate the commencement of the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup, poised to witness thrilling matches unfold in venues across the Caribbean and the United States.

Ahead of the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup, the ICC launched a global “trophy tour,” beginning in New York City on 19 March.
Former champions Yuvraj Singh and Chris Gayle, alongside sprinter Usain Bolt, were named ambassadors, amplifying excitement. The tournament’s official theme song, “Out of this World,” featuring Sean Paul and Kes, was unveiled on 2 May, adding to anticipation.
With the tour fueling fan enthusiasm and star ambassadors on board, the stage is set for an extraordinary showcase of cricketing talent and cultural celebration.
